The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, the government’s newconsumer watchdog, is asking people to tell about their experiencewith private student loans.

The agency wants to hear about private Student Loans, notgovernment-backed Stafford and Perkins loans. It wants to know whypeople borrow privately instead of using government-backed loans.It wants to know if people are having trouble repaying, and if theborrowing affects career choices, among other things.
The bureau was created as part of banking reform legislationfollowing the 2008 financial crash. It has broad powers toregulate consumer lending. It is preparing a report for Congresson consumer lending, due this summer.
